We use workshop models for instruction of Math, Reading and Writing. The workshop models are called Daily 3 Math and Daily 5 (for reading and writing). In this photo you see children practicing "Math by Myself". I refer to it as practicing because launching these models is done in purposeful steps to tap into children's intrinsic motivation to learn. These workshop models provide students with academic choice based on their learning goals.

On Monday, it was everything SUPERKIDS. This reading and writing program has produced the most engaged students that I have had in my teaching career. The KInders absolutely loved the Superkids. So much that the feeling of sadness was a dark cloud hanging over our classroom on the last day of the last Superkids lesson. But, to lighten their spirits, we had a Superkids Day! All activities of the day were focused on all of the Superkids and lessons that we have encountered in this program. Icky's TV show with Superkids puppets, Cass and Golly's dog bones, Hot Rod's Fast Cats, Ettabetta's games and puzzles, Frit's fishing pond, and Oswald's picinic (we had chickens come to our Superkid picninc!)
Guiding Kinders through the writing process, step by step, part by part, to create a memory book about their year in Kindergarten has been a walk down memory lane. Today they had to peer edit: a star- something your friend has done well in their writing, a wish: something your friend could change to make their writing better.
Good sports: Mr. Rector, Ms. Hoffman and Mr. Schilling all willingly participated! Students really enjoyed watching these good sports participate in a really gross event.
As we mirror the Superkids, we had an event "The Big Box Fix Up". Playing the role of an engineer, Kinders designed and created anything they wanted to from a box. Projects are on display in the front lobby for a few days. Come check them out.
