Blanket tents! Kinders and Mrs. Remick celebrated their year together by meeting through Zoom with a camping trip. KInders moved their cameras around so we could see their creative blanket tents. Mrs. Remick's tent had some items left by the Superkids: a snack concoction, a book of games and puzzles, a fishing pole, a bat and ball, bug spray and a lamp, a hammer and screwdriver, and a helmet. Kinders had to guess which Superkid might have left those items. Then Kinders shared their field trip books that Mrs. Remick made for them to journal their thoughts and collect items they found on their own field trips. Mrs. Remick shared a read aloud book that she made as a memory book of all of the different field trips the class took during remote learning. At the end of the celebration, we identified the friends that were going to have birthdays during the summer and sang the "Happy Birthday" song.

Today we virtually traveled to Quechee to visit Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS). Our guest teacher, Anna, taught us so much about owls. We got to meet Troy and Miami, and ask questions. VINS is hoping to open to the public on June 15th. These Kinders sure would like to make a visit to VINS!
Our field trips this week centered on the theme of wetlands. Here is a picture of one Kinder's wetland at home. Then we were honored to have guest teacher, Steve, from the ECHO center in Burlington teach us about turtles, show us lake sturgeon, and how the water at ECHO is cleaned. We drew pictures and made dioramas of wetlands that had a turtle in it.
We took a virtual field trip to the Montshire Museum with science educator Amy. We learned about sink and float. We even did an experiment all together! Ask your Kinder: Who sank the boat?
It's a beautiful day to go outside and play (experiment) in some water! Have extra egg cartons? Give them to a family with a child in Kindergarten. We are using egg cartons to learn about and count numbers 20-100.
Ms. Brehm and Mr. Colosa joined us on our field to the Fairbanks Museum. Here are the song lyrics and collage.
Ms. Brehm's collage of a printed fish is below the lyrics. The technique for printing fish is called Gyotaku. This week we traveled to Washington to the Seattle Aquarium and to St. Johnsbury to the Fairbanks Museum. A little Geography mixed with Science. The theme for this week was FISH. Thank you to Leila from the Fairbanks Museum for bringing us a live session about Fish Anatomy. We all will certainly make some changes to our fish drawings! Can you name the parts of the fish?
For our next Math unit, Kinders need (homemade) ten frames. Homemade ten frames could be egg cartons or any item that has a 2 rows of 5 slots. An egg carton can be easily cut to a ten frame.
