We have a treasure in our neighborhood. The Fairbanks Museum and the Danville School are partners in education. This week we took a trip to the Fairbanks Museum to visit the Butterfly Tent and have a lesson on butterfly life cycles, insect body parts, and touch and feel a chrysalis. As a Danville resident you can go to the Fairbanks Museum for FREE!

One of our Monarch Caterpillars (we have 10) changed! Listen how encouraging the children are! We set our new friend free in the afternoon at the milkweed patch. Goodbye friend. Many, many habitats around our school. Kinders used magnifying glasses to observe and investigate habitats: trees, apples, garden, and even the playground.
This week the Literacy and Math centers were introduced. Kinders are beginning to practice what centers look like, feel like and sound like. They still need more practice with this so that I can run successful small groups and conduct individual conferences. Kinders are building their stamina to be independent learners in these structured centers. More details about the learning centers will come in future posts.
